Mapping Security Requirements into Enterprise Search

Click to download White Paper

Expanding the scope of search within an enterprise, to enable employees and partners to more easily find data, seems almost directly at odds with the security requirements that mandate precisely controlled access to that same data.

Amid this turmoil, search vendors have remained uncharacteristically quiet on the subject. This paper defines the basic concepts of security inside search, explains the difference between "early" and "late" binding security implementations, and provides some thoughts on specific vendors and search engine security "Gotchas!"

This started as a series of articles in 2006, which we later turned into a white paper and then series of industry trade show presentations. Search vendors have now adopted the NIE terms "early binding" and "late binding".
